Who are we? Our staff consists of field scientists, academics, and specialists with years of experience running scientific expeditions, organizing tours, and facilitating media trips into a wide variety of places, from the jungles of Central America to South American cities to the Caribbean. Your students will experience an educational tour tailored to their needs, utilizing the contacts and insider’s knowledge that Tropical Classroom Expeditions offers. We are a proud partner of the Mesoamerican Ecotourism Alliance, non-profit conservation tour experts with 12 years of experience in the regions We focus on cultural, archaeological, economic, and biological programs. Students will learn about these issues from leading scientists, local officials, indigenous people, and young professionals. For instance, a trip focused on globalization in Honduras might include a discussion with a development professional, the mayor of a local town, workers in a clothing factory, farmers, business owners in a variety of economic sectors, and Honduran scholars. By Educators, For EducatorsA travel course or service learning experience has special requirements, before, during and after the trip. Tropical Classroom Expeditions creates field experience with real educational and experiential value. We provide guides and local experts and we prepare academic materials such as bibliographies and lesson plans to complement the tour. Tropical Classroom Expeditions creates international travel courses and service learning opportunities for student groups of all levels. We help educators design the perfect course for their students. We take care of the logistics, and faculty can concentrate on teaching. (sample itinerary here) We help educators add travel or service components to new or existing courses at their institutions with their students, providing the knowledge and expertise create a successful educational trip. Please see our Frequently Asked Questions page. Our travel courses explore diverse topics, from globalization to the African Diaspora to archaeology to tropical ecology. Summer programs for middle and high-school students are also available focused on biology and tropical ecology in Caribbean and tropical forest settings. Our service learning opportunities are created to your needs. Our emphasis is on protected area management and community-based economic development. As an outgrowth of this, we are able to facilitate alternative spring break trips for college groups. We have some established trips that are appropriate for individuals as well as groups. These independent educational trips may be appropriate for academic credit. |
